Jack and Gillian Linington Scholarship

The Jack and Gillian Linington Scholarship Fund, was created to provide students or workers who are entering into or looking to advance their careers in the road building, road maintenance or heavy civil construction industry. The fund will provide a legacy in the name of Jack & Gillian Linington. Jack Linington was involved with the BC Road Builders on various projects and committees for almost 30 years spanning from 1972 to 2001, and made a Honorary Member in 1989.

 

About Jack Linington

The fund honours Jack & Gillian Linington. Jack Linington started his career with Columbia Bitulithic as an equipment operator and driver, then moved to the purchasing department and then made purchasing manager. After 25 years of service, he left Columbia Bitulithic as equipment division manager for all of BC. Jack later went on to work for Zacharias Paving, Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers, and retired from Hiway Equipment as vice-president and general manager. During his career, Jack Linington served as an alternate director for the BC Road Builders. He was actively involved with the Member Rental Rates committee (Rental Rates Committee & Rental Rates Guide published by Naylor Communications) and a number of other projects and committees.

Jack was married to his loving wife Gillian for 60 years.

Jack Linington’s contributions and involvement in the industry have significantly advanced its growth and development, leaving behind a legacy certain to empower future students entering into the road building or heavy civil industry.

 

Funding

Jack & Gillian Linington established a generous Endowment Fund to the BC Road Builders & Heavy Construction Association for future students or workers entering or looking to advance their careers in the road building or heavy civil construction industry.

The Jack & Gillian Linington Scholarship awards the successful candidate(s) $4,000 to be used towards study & living expenses.

 

Who May Apply

Any student entering or continuing studies leading to a career in road building, road maintenance, or heavy construction.

  • Program of study may be full-time or part-time at any BC college, university, technical or trades institute, union training programs or BCRB&HCA Training Programs
  • Can be used for Accredited Programs in Apprenticeship, Civil Engineering, Road Builder Certifications, Supervision and Leadership
  • Open to individuals returning to school to upgrade skills or further their education are welcome to apply
  • Preference will be given to Association Members’ Families, First Nations, & underrepresented groups in the industry
  • All applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents

Applications must include:

  • A brief 250 – 500 word essay explaining interest in obtaining an education in the field and career goals.
  • Transcripts from all secondary and post-secondary institutions attended.
  • A current resume.

Applications are due by June 30 every year, the Jack & Gillian Scholarship Committee will determine the successful candidate(s). Successful candidates will be contacted directly by the Association.

The committee reserves the right to not award the scholarship if no suitable candidates apply.
